The Urgency of Importance

In Stephen Covey's book "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" he talks about the difference between Important and Urgent matters, and how dividing our time in a balanced way between those two types of activities can make us more or less effective.

It's amazing how something that urgently demands our attention almost always seems to appear important. But is it? Understanding how to recognize the two as separate has really been an eye-opener for me and has helped me prioritize how I spend my time.

Urgent matters require our immediate attention; we react to urgent needs. It could be something as simple as putting down a book we are studying to answer a question shouted from the next room.

Every one of us probably knows someone who's permanently in crisis mode, constantly putting out fires, busy, busy, busy. But, have you noticed, that type of person is frequently stuck somewhere shy of their goals because they never seem to have the time to get to the things they say are important to them?

I am not saying that urgent matters are always not important. A true crisis must be tended to. But a problem--something like figuring out how to clear the cache on your computer so it runs smoother--must take a number and wait behind matters that actually are important.

Important activities are those that help you get closer to the goals you have set for yourself. Important tasks frequently are things we must do on our own initiative, without some outside circumstance creating a sense of urgency. Important things come in all sizes, but usually require planning and effort, sometimes simply to prevent situations from becoming urgent. For example, taking care of your own body now is important because it may help you to avoid a future consumed by illness and urgent visits to the doctor. (I have barely missed the gym since I had this epiphany!)

We ignore important tasks early in the day or early in life, they have a way of escalating into urgent situations.

It's probably becoming apparent that one thing that's extremely important is to separate important tasks from urgent ones and assign them time appropriately. Once you've clarified that something is important, it's your responsibility to assign a sense of urgency and get it done. If you're an entrepreneur, think about the aspects of your business that are urgent as opposed to important. Consider delegating urgent tasks by getting an assistant. Your effectiveness will dramatically increase if you start spending by far the greatest percentage of your time attending to the important things. If you take care of the important tasks you'll keep them from becoming urgent and reduce the amount of time devoted to crisis management in your life.

As I said, time for mortals is finite. In fact, we never really know when we'll run out of it. To make matters more complicated, there turns out to be truth in the old saying that you never have enough time to do everything you'd like to do. So you really do need to decide what is important, and take care of business!

Fast Food Financial Planning?

This phrase, "Fast Food Financial Planning," grabbed my attention not long ago, as I'm sure it did yours a moment ago, when I was reading one of Robert Kiyosaki's books in the Rich Dad series.

When you look at the health problems of millions of people in America today, many are suffering because they are eating fast food that taste good, is extensively advertised, well packaged, and easy to buy.

Sound familiar? It should.

I don't think anyone would disagree that we have a "health crisis" in this country caused by too much fast food. Well, we now have an even bigger "wealth crisis" caused by too much "Fast Food Financial Planning."

Having spent almost a decade in the financial services industry, I never really thought about it this way, yet the relationship between the two is eerie. This was one of the big reasons why I left the industry a few years ago...because way too many people were be given the exact same financial advice, yet they are all different people with completely different individual financial needs and goals. It would be like a Doctor recommending the same medication for a man with a heart problem that he does a woman with a skin problem. Unbelievable when you think about it.

In this particular book, Robert Kiyosaki says: "Any food or investment that is easy to buy, overly advertised, wrapped in convenient packages, with sales offices and sales people on every corner, is probably not good for you." He went on to say, "Just as some of the best tasting, healthiest, and best value food I have found has been in tiny out of the way restaurants, some of the best investments I have found have been in tiny obscure places run by true artists and gifted geniuses...NOT big corporations."

One by one, U.S. and global leaders are lining up to talk up their respective schemes to end this once in a lifetime economic collapse. Listen and listen carefully folks; don’t believe a single thing they are saying. Let me put it this way; if their lips are moving, we are being lied to.

Here’s the truth of the matter. One by one our largest and once most respected mega- companies are becoming insolvent, and there is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop the process. The debt levels and derivatives held against this debt are just too overwhelming. In a period of unmatched deleveraging, where bank financing is nearly impossible to obtain, corporate America, the entire corporate world (outside of China), and individual funding is simply unattainable. Remember when Circuit City had to liquidate because a buyer could not be found and additional financing was impossible, causing 30,000 employees to lose their jobs essentially overnight? Now, extend that same process to thousands of companies worldwide and you get an idea of how ugly things are about to become. AIG, Lehman, Countrywide, Merrill Lynch, Citi, Bank of America, and Bear Stearns (just to name a few) have either completely imploded or are in the process of completing the implosion process. Worldwide we’re talking about $30 trillion in wealth that’s been destroyed in less than 12 months. Incredulous to even fathom isn’t it? And next up are GE, which has seen it’s market value drop from $500 billion in late 2007 to just $60 billion today. GE is literally days away from becoming a penny stock, and another of our latest zombie mega-companies. MGM, which has seen their share price drop from over $100 in October 2007 to just $2 today, now faces bankruptcy and a possible liquidation as well.

CRIMINAL CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

For the last 20 years plus I’ve been amazed by the vast conflicts of interest that exist on Wall Street and in the financial industry. My first wake-up call was watching my first investment firm implode because of its own internal conflicts and mismanagement of an IPO of a mortgage derivatives fund, brought to us by our new hot shot MBA CEO out of some Ivy League school. That one particular investment brought down a 100 year old firm, and lost our investors at least $50 million (this was when $50 million was a lot of money). The firm was blindsided by the upside potential of this mortgage related, derivatives based, algorithmic program that they felt was hedged in every way possible, and would earn the firm millions in fees over the years.

It was not…and in less than 9 months it brought the entire firm down. No one went to jail and no one was forced to take responsibility. Incredible.

About five years later I watched two of my company’s red hot IPO’s file for bankruptcy, both within a year. Again, well over a hundred million lost to investors, yet no one was forced to pay the price. Nauseating.

In 1995 or so I read an article in the NY Times about Merrill Lynch and their research department. The article (which was buried on page 15b I think) spelled out that of the 700 or so stocks that Merrill’s analysts followed, each had a rating of Buy, Sell or Hold. You would think that the ratings would be evenly distributed, say with 300 Buy ratings, 200 Sell ratings, and 200 Hold Ratings….this would represent a somewhat balanced and fair ratings system. But, as the Times piece spelled out, Merrill’s analysts had sell ratings on just a handful of these companies that their research department followed. If you’re asking “how could that possibly be the case?”… here’s how: each of these companies also paid (or had the potential to pay) Merrill Lynch significant and very lucrative “finders fees” or commissions on future investment banking business, and Merrill’s higher ups that oversaw the revenue side of the business knew that a “sell rating” would be the kiss of death to ever earning those huge fees that are the lifeblood of Wall Street.

Finally, years later, Wall Street was investigated for this fraudulent practice and forced to pay over $1 billion in fines…an amount that was supposed to be true penance for their admitted wrongdoing. The truth however was something else. That $1 billion fine worked out to less than 3 days of profits for the firms involved!

Of course we all know about Enron, WorldCom and the various dot-coms that were nothing more than one big shell game. And we know about the $500 million bailout of hundreds upon hundreds of criminal savings and loans that became the Resolution Trust Corp from the 1980’s. Our modern day, trillion dollar bailout of the banking industry and of Wall Street is happening right before our eyes. Just follow the money that’s being doled out under the TARP Program and you’ll know who caused it by watching who saves the day (hint, they are one in the same).

Now, we have the biggest Ponzi Scheme ever supposedly in investment gurus Bernard Madoff’s $50 billion scam. The SEC investigated Madoffs firm 8 times over 16 years, yet could find only minor record keeping violations….say what? Any novice in investments or bookkeeping could have spotted this scheme from a mile away, and in fact many reported him to the SEC over a 10-15 year period. Yet incredibly, the SEC failed to once take action. Now, over 8000 investors in Madoffs fund have likely lost everything they invested. $50 billion gone in the blink of an eye…

When will these CRIMINAL CONFLICTS OF INTEREST stop?? When will someone in our country’s leadership have the courage and decency to do the right thing and completely restructure the Pyramid Scheme that is Wall Street??

And, let’s not stop there. While we’re on the subject of Ponzi Schemes, let’s do something about the one that really is the biggest Ponzi Scheme ever; Social Security, or Social Insecurity if we were to call it by its real name. This boondoggle of an entitlement program is bankrupt, as all of the money in it has been “borrowed” by the Federal government to pay for other programs. In 2020, if not sooner, our taxes will have to be raised to 70% just to fund these bankrupt entitlement programs, including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

This is the sad, depressing future that we’re leaving our kids and grandkids. President Obama, if you truly do represent “Change that we can all believe in”, do the right thing and put an end to ALL of these criminal conspiracies, once and for all. Unless someone does it, and soon, we won’t have a country to call home for very much longer.

Before social media, you could describe the interactions we've had with the Internet as "People to Software".

What you experienced was a static information piece. You could read about whatever you wanted, watch whatever you wanted, and post whatever you wanted.

You could manipulate it by performing searches, and "use" it as a tool like a hammer, but you couldn't interact with it on a conscious level. You couldn't have a "conversation".

Well thanks to social media, the internet has turned into a living, breathing, thinking, talking entity, because YOU and I have been integrated into the software.

It's become a "People to People" experience, so now when you talk, perform a search, make a blog post, or ask a question, the web talks back.

Think about it this way...

Television was a one-way communication channel that allowed you to watch pictures, and listen to sounds.

The Web was like having the ability to touch and manipulate the pictures on your TV.

But Web 2.0 is like having a TV that has a conversation with you. If you insult it, it will insult you back or actively ignore you.

And believe me, the web can be a very powerful and persuasive person. If you've been on a website and read reviews or comments posted by users, you've been exposed to its' persuasive abilities.

The sites that are making this kind of interaction possible like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and YouTube, have started gobbling up the majority of the traffic - and more importantly - the time and attention of people on the net.

For example, the average Facebook user checks their account 3 - 4 times daily, and spends 19+ minutes on the site per session. That's over an hour per day.

Now throw in YouTube, Twitter, LinkdIn. BetterNetworker, and the rest of the social networking sites, and that hour turns into 3+ hours.

Social media is the new communication channel that will dominate the web. That's a fact.

Which means you need to ask yourself a few very important questions...

What will happen to your business if you're not a part of the conversations taking place about YOU, your products, and your company?

What will happen to your business if the web turns it's voice against you?

What will happen if you speak... Even shout... and the web ignores you?

How would you ever recruit distributors, or sell your products?

As online marketers, that's the reality we're now faced with.

You see, the new power this transition is creating will belong to the people like you and I who are able to create an "audience" (traffic), that will listen and support you (trust).

It's not just about search engine links on Google anymore. It's about the size of your following, and the quality of the relationship you have with those people.

But now you've got to have manners...

Etiquette is involved, because now you're literally "speaking" to the web instead of just watching it, and poking it with your mouse.

Each community has it's own language, like ("tweets, tweeting, and re-tweets" on Twitter). Each community has it's own sense of purpose, identity, influencers, and rules of conduct like BetterNetworker.

Yet this is where the traffic is going, so this is where we must follow.

This is where you prospects time and attention will be, so this is where you need to be.

So ask yourself the following questions...

What kind of social media presence do you have now? (If any at all?)

How will you stand out from the crowd of millions of people and build your audience?

Once you have that audience, how will you build trust?

Once you have that trust, how will you turn that relationship into business without betraying it?

Well those are the questions and the journey we're faced with, and as I've always said in the past, "success is in the details".

Huge Moves by the FED

The bear market rally continued today, this time thanks to never before seen moves by the US Federal Reserve. They not only dropped the Fed Funds rate by .50%, but also made it very clear in their forward looking comments that they would provide record amounts of liquidity to the markets going forward and that they would purchase "large quantities of agency debt and mortgage-backed securities," adding that "it stands ready to expand its purchases."

This is Fed speak for “get ready folks…you think we’ve thrown a lot of money at the problem so far? You ain’t seen nothing yet!”

The dollar sold off hard on the news and prompted another $20 move higher in gold and a similar move in silver. The message from the government is clear; they will do whatever we need to do to stop the economy from deflating, damn the long term consequences. This is especially true when it comes to interest rates on mortgages, and with this move today they are targeting an interest rate move to below 4% on 30 year mortgages. It will not happen overnight, but if they have their way, it will happen.

On the surface, this looks to be great news for the economy, and it certainly was for the stock market today as the Dow rose over 350 points. Investors should never fight the tape (primary direction of the stock market) or the FED, and with trillions of dollars being artificially inserted into the economy its clear that you will be in a bare-knuckled brawl with the governments balance sheet if you are betting on the stock market to go lower…at least for the next few weeks. As I’ve been writing, the Obama Christmas rally is here, and now we know for certain that the FED and Treasury are determined not to be remembered as Scrooge.

Yes, the fix is in! Absolutely no doubt about it. We’ve had bad news after bad news hit us right between the eyes yet the market continues to climb a wall of worry. This is one of the most important “tells” of investing. When the stock market continues to go higher in the face of the worst news possible, you know you’re playing in either a rigged game or you have one heck of a bull market. In this case its all about the game being rigged, but at the end of the day, does it really matter? The markets going higher….and that’s the bottom line…for now.

I look for the gains to continue from here…likely into the New Year and the inauguration. The move will not be straight up, but it should be good enough to continue with long positions for some time.

Over the next 2-6 weeks we’ll see:

· 4th quarter window dressing by money managers

· The January Effect will continue to kick in (end of year beaten up stocks rally…post tax selling)

· Second Tarp from Uncle Sam

· Artificial Housing Stimulus (mortgage rates dropping like a rock and the government buying mortgages directly)

· Auto Bailout

Also, there is over $3 trillion sitting in money market funds looking for a place to make money.

This move will likely not last past the inauguration, but it could potentially be an explosive move higher. In this market, you’ll take it however you can get it… before we go short again.

I've been debating whether or not to write this email for about two weeks now because I know that quite a few people will wrongly be offended by it, and that my inbox will be flooded by derogatory responses.

Then my new issue of Perry Marshall's Newsletter arrived in my mail box, and I changed my mind...

I hate shopping at Wal-Mart. It makes me sick to my stomach, but the important part is why.. (And if you're going to read
this, you need to read the entire page).
For as long as I can remember, I've had a burning desire to achieve above average financial prosperity... To have the million dollar home on the lake, the cars, and the ability to do anything, or buy anything I want. 100%, pure freedom.

But it's not just about material goods. Money gives you the freedom, options, and power to have a large and positive impact on society through charity, education, and reform.

Because I have such strong feelings and emotions attached to the desire to achieve wealth and success, I have equally strong feelings of repulsion for poverty and weakness.

You will adopt the ideas, beliefs, and mindset of the people you spend the most time with (including the people found on TV, in books, or on tape), which will lead you to make similar decisions, which will lead you to assume a similar life and lifestyle.

Rich people know this, and they know that a person's mindset is fluid. It's always changing with the ideas and interactions it comes into contact with on a daily basis.

This is why rich people protect themselves from everything associated with struggle and poverty.

Ever wonder why they live together in walled communities closed off from the rest of society with massive gates? Ever wonder why they shop at expensive boutiques, fly first-class, stay at $500/night hotels?

Ever wonder why most of them belong to "members only" country clubs?

Is it because they want to enjoy the finer things in life? Well sure. But that's not the only reason.

They want to protect their minds from the thoughts of poverty and struggle that are held by the rest of common society because they know that all thoughts are contagious, and they have a burning desire to live un-common lives.

The rich get richer because they only invite and interact with other prosperous people.

The common man sees this behavior as "stuck-up" and "snobby". The rich simple see it as an unfortunate necessity, as I do.

That's why I never shop at Wal-Mart. Have I? Yes. But just walking into that store makes me physically uncomfortable. My stomach turns.

I feel that way because I associate that store and the people who shop there with struggle and poverty.

The entire company is designed around the concept of "saving money" and pinching pennies.

It's a physical monument dedicated to thoughts like...

"I only have this much money, so I need to save as much as I can."

"The economy is crashing, so I need to guard what little I have."

"I can't afford it..."

"We're on a limited budget."

That kind mindset is a disease voluntarily held by people who go through life as victims.

They are subservient to their boss, to economic times, to prices, and to money itself.

Money has the power, and they are lucky to acquire and save any that comes their way.

The rich think differently.

They believe and accept that they have the power to change and shape their lives as they wish. Money doesn't own their lives, they own the money. They have the power.

The difference between these two mindsets can be summed up like this...

Someone with a poverty mentality says, "I can't afford it".

Someone with an abundance mentality says, "How can I afford it?"

The more you start to think like the rich, the more appearant this mindset will become to you. One day, you'll walk into Walmart and you'll literally FEEL what I'm talking about.

You'll feel like you're out of place... Like you've walked into a club or restaurant where you're the one person who doesn't belong.

Now I know that there are a lot of people out there reading this who DO shop at Wal-Mart and are saying, "that's easy for you to say Mike. You don't have a family of 4 to support and you're not struggling to get this home business thing off the ground anymore."

Well I have shopped at Wal-Mart and I have been as low as anyone. When you're pawning your DVD collection to eat as I have, you've basically hit the bottom.

But the difference is that even during those times, I have NEVER been comfortable shopping there because in my mind, I was different. I didn't belong in that store. I didn't share the same mind-set that the rest of the people in there did.

I have nothing against saving money when you're struggling. I was there. But I do, and will always wage war against a poverty mentality.

Whether or not you shop at Wal-Mart is not important. Everyone starts from the bottom and does whatever they have to do. Whether or not you are comfortable and happy shopping at Wal-Mart is where your personal truth is found.

If you don't have the feelings, desires, and aspirations to separate yourself from the crowd of Middle America discount shoppers, then I don't know why you're even on this list.

To take this attitude of abundance vs prosperity to another level, I've also adopted the following habits:

I never use coupons and I never accept coin change from a purchase. If my bottle of water costs $1.75, the cashier gets $2.00 and keeps the 25 cents.

Why?

Because I NEVER focus on pinching pennies. I focus on MAKING MORE.

I constantly hold an abundance mindset, and these two habits are a physical expression of that mentality that I have held even when I was making $1,500/mo as a waiter. It's a message to my subconscious mind to always see life through a lens of prosperity.

If you find yourself thinking more about saving money, than making money...

If you have trouble seeing yourself as a leader instead of an employee...

Some home based businesses or Multi-level marketing, or MLM, as it's more commonly known, has acquired a very bad reputation in recent years. Network Marketing companies have better reputations--But despite this, it still
remains a very strong viable option (even more so in this crazy economy) for earning a great living at home without having to start your own major franchise brick or mortor business that may fail! In this economy-networking is far less risky!

So how do you separate the legitimate options from those that are built on weak longterm success or those that are built like quicksand-meaning getting only the people at the top rich? Here are some good tips to help you do just that.

1. Take some time to thoroughly research the company. Don't let a sharp video or website sway you in one day! Get to the bottom rather quickly by looking on google searches and make phone calls!

We bail out AIG, Fannie, Freddie and the banks to save our system from collapse...they are just too big to fail. Now we have to bail out GM, Ford and Chrysler ( I mean Cerebus, the super secretive private equity firm that owns Chrysler) for the same reason. Trust me, it won't end there....and it won't stop with us bailing out just US co's.

Folks, this is called "throwing good money after bad" and goes against one of the most important rules of successful investing. You just DON'T DO IT!

Is It Better To Have A Company With More Products For Sale, Or Less? – And How This Effects Your Recruiting Results? ----By Mike Dillard

A few years ago I was building a team with a popular juice company that had one single product in their line.
This had become a growing trend after the success of Noni and Sea Silver – two companies that had broken sales records for the industry with single product based lines.
Without doubt, it was a phenomenon that caught everyone’s attention, and sparked much debate among distributors.
Is it better to have just one product, or should you have many to fit all the needs of your potential customers like New Vision, or Herbalife, Isagenix, or Melalueca?
For many people, logic dictated that having multiple products was an advantage.
But the numbers said differently, and this juice company became the third in a row to shatter all sales and growth records, despite their minimalist product line.
Why?
That’s the point of this letter… It’s not to argue for one model or company over another, but to discover the psychological reasons behind the numbers.
Why did consumers buy more product, more often, when they were presented with fewer choices?
Well last night I started reading a new book called, “YES! 50 Scientifically Proven Ways To Be Persuasive” by Robert Cialdini.
And guess what I found on page30…?

Yep, the answer to this massive question.
Here’s an excerpt from the book that demonstrates this phenomenon in two very different studies…
“Behavioral scientist Sheena Iyengar and several colleagues analyzed company-sponsored retirement programs for nearly 800,000 workers, looking at how the participation rates varied as a function of how many fund choices the organization offered.
Sure enough, the researchers found that the more choices that were offered, the less likely the employees were to enroll in the program at all.
For every 10 additional funds the company offered, the participation rate dropped 2%.
By comparison, they found that when only two funds were offered, the rate of participation was roughly 75%. But when fifty-nine funds were offered, the participation dropped below 60%.
In a second study, they set up a display at an upscale super market in which passersby could sample a variety of jams that were all made by a single manufacturer.
Either 6, or 24 flavors were offered at any given time.
The results demonstrated a clear and astonishing difference between the two conditions: Only 3% of those who approached the extensive-choice display actually purchased any jam. Contrast that with the 30% who bought jam when they approached the limited choice display.”
Now there are always exceptions to the rule, when variety plays a positive role, such as Baskin Robins Ice Cream, but in most cases, too many options leads to indecision.
I found that this philosophy had a positive impact in ALL areas of my networking business as well.
Having a single product based line was advantageous in many ways…
It created PERFECT focus and momentum throughout the company because every single distributor, was dealing with the same product.
Think of it as a bandwagon effect.
All of the conference calls, all of the tools, all of the websites, and all of the training were about one single product.
New distributors didn’t join and say, “So which products should I promote”, or “Which tools should I buy?”
Every distributor and every team was on the same page. This laser-like focus produced incredible results.
Having too many options creates fragmentation throughout the distributor force, with various teams using different methods, and tools to promote different products.
This creates confusion and doubt for new distributors who can’t help but wonder if there’s a better way being used by another team.
Focus is destroyed.
Now when it came to recruiting, we relied on this same behavioral tendency to maximize results there as well.
I’ve always had a saying in this business when it comes to the sponsoring process… “People will only choose from the options you give them”.
It was a technique that was extremely useful when it was time to take an order and fill-out the distributor application.
You NEVER ask a prospect, “So John, how much product would you like to buy for your first initial order?”
That’s sales suicide.
You GIVE John 1 to 3 options that he MUST choose from.
For example, let’s say that your company offers three product for 1, 3, or 5 boxes of product, valued at $100 per box.
Well when I was recruiting distributors for this juice company at the time, I would have only offered John the option to get started with 3 boxes or 5.
Starting with 1 box was NOT an option that I’d give him.
If he asked if he could just purchase 1, the answer was no… “John, how do you really expect to start a successful business with 1 single box of product?

If you want to be a consumer, that’s fine, but as a business builder you’d be shooting yourself in the foot and I can’t let you do that.“
If he insisted on buying only 1 box, then I’d let him go. I wouldn’t sponsor him.
Why?
For several reasons…
1: He wasn’t coachable.
2: He wasn’t really serious about his success to begin with.
3: He was going to attract, and start others in the business the same way he came in… A bunch of people willing to “give it a try” with 1 box of product.
Because I only gave my prospects the option to get started with 3 or 5 boxes of product, that meant that 100% of my distributors started with 3 or 5 boxes, instead of 1 or 2 like most people on other teams.
This meant our team was doing 3 to 5 times the volume and having much more success in building a customer base because they actually had product on hand to sell and promote.
Just remember… YOU dictate the terms. Your prospects can only choose from the options YOU give them.
I used this same mentality when writing the “Building On A Budget” course.
I could have included 10 to 15 different methods for producing free traffic online, but I intentionally limited the course to my top 5, most effective methods.
If you give a student too many options to choose from, they’re paralyzed by indecision.
If you give them a short, focused path to follow, they’ll get incredible results, which is exactly what’s happened for those who’ve gone through the material like the people at the bottom of the page here…
Just remember…
The fewer the number of options, the more focus…
The more focus, the better the results…

1. Create a picture board and fill it with images of your desired goals. The car you want to own, the house you want to live in, the area where you want to live yes, they’re the obvious ones. Others could be pictures of holiday destinations, trophies, first-class travel tickets, clothes you want to buy, fine restaurants you want to frequent – whatever you can think of that gets your pulse racing.

2. GET ANGRY. If you want to change your life for the better then get angry about where you’re at now. Having a blasé attitude towards change isn’t what’s needed and it won’t create a strong desire within you. So ask: “Why do I want to change?” Is it because you’re FED UP with debts? Valuable time that you can use much more effectively by investing it in YOU. Remember this: You have a finite amount of time here on Earth. You don’t know how much time you have – no one does. But it’s how you use the time you have that counts. So make your time count and that means starting from right NOW.

4. Conformity. Are you a mindless little sheep who’s way too timid to pursue your own way? Do you have to follow where everyone else goes, doing exactly what everyone else does and therefore, who gets the same levels of happiness as all the other little sheep? Seriously, does this describe YOU? Are you too frightened to be different than all of the other sheep because they wouldn’t like it if you decided to follow a different path? So you dutifully trot along following all the other sheep because if they’re doing it then that’s how it is right? But if you do what everyone else does you’ll just get what everyone else gets. Do you want to be a mindless, timid little sheep who blindly follows all the other sheep? Or do you want to be a leader, a warrior who possesses the courage to be uniquely you and to do what you want to do and make your dreams happen? If so then this means you have to be more like a tiger than a sheep. Do you really want to be a sheep? I mean, haven’t we got enough sheep already?

5. Fear your fear. Fear is the force that is determined to stop you in your tracks and rob your dreams from you. But it can only do this if you let it. Are you going to let this cruel destructive charlatan trample on your dreams, steal your happiness and crush your spirit? Imagine this thought haunting your final days: “I didn’t do the things I wanted because I was too frightened to live”. And by then, it’ll be far too late to conquer fear. Here's My Story And I'm Stickin' With It

Since this is my first official WMI Blog post, a quick background on me is in order, plus a very valuable lesson at the end...

I've been with Wealth Masters exactly 2 years now. It's hard to believe I will be attending my 5th m2 Wealth Conference this fall. How the time flies...when you're having fun, of course.

I was born and raised just outside of Boston, MA. I went on to college in New York and graduated from Hofstra University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Management. I was also a member of the NCAA Division 1-AA Football team at Hofstra.

I had a sales job lined up the day I graduated from college and moved to Long Island, NY right after I graduated. I couldn’t wait to get out there in the "real world." After about one year in that dead end job I became a stock broker at the beginning of one the greatest bull markets in American history and made my first million by the age of 27. Great timing.

In 2001 I left the Investment Banking world all together once I finally learned how "the game" was played. It took awhile for me to eventually understand the politics and the manipulation behind "the game." Case in point – look what just happened to Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers.

Back then, I watched a great deal of my friends go to jail for stock fraud, stock manipulation and insider trading....many have never really recovered or gotten their lives back on track. Sad to watch. Ever see the movie "Boiler Room?" That was what most of the Long Island, NY firms looked like and operated like in the early 90's.

Fortunately for me, at the time these guys were playing their stock manipulation "games" in the early 90's, I was still in college. By the time I got into the industry in 1996, it had been cleaned up quite bit and the firm's I was associated with ran very good businesses for the most part.

But then the industry took another, major turn for the worse after the tech bubble burst in 2001. I walked away altogether. I had enough at that point. I had made and lost millions not only for my clients but for myself as well. I then went on to spend a few years in the Mortgage Banking industry right at the beginning of one of the longest periods of interest rate cuts in history. Clearly the Mortgage Banking environment saw explosive growth and timing was right on for me again.

It didn’t take me long to learn how the mortgage "game" was played though. The result -- exactly the meltdown we're now seeing unfold on Wall Street, in the mortgage industry and unfortunately...Main Street. So far, three entire countries have now been wiped out due to Wall Street and the United States mortgage lending industry. It absolutely blows me away...

You'll likely see a whole new wave of arrests sweep through Wall Street and the mortgage industry in the years ahead. High profile investment bankers and CEO's will be rounded up and sent to jail. This stuff takes years to come to a head.

Finally, in 2005 I left the Financial Services field all together to pursue my passion as an Entrepreneur (I'm sure you can relate). In early 2006, I became fascinated with Internet Marketing. Great timing again? I think so. But this industry offers a far bigger opportunity to grow financially AND personally. I attend events all over the country an this is THE most dynamic, optimistic and success focused group of people I've ever been around in my entire life. I've grown more personally in the past two years than I did in the previous thirty three.

And as they pass by the calling neon signs of the another casino promising the next big jack-pot, they latch on to their sales pitch and hitch their dreams to it, only to be a victim of their own refusal to "wake up", once again.

Use this knowledge to professionalize your business and discipline your work ethic, and you will start to see results quickly.

STOP looking for the next big thing. Stop paying attention to competing ads.

Bear Market Rally

The stock markets around the globe have been absolutely battered. While the US is down over 43%, most foreign markets are off over 50-80% from their highs….just brutal…and amazingly fast. We’re looking at something like $10 trillion in global market losses in just the last couple of months. As I’ve been saying…this is once in a lifetime stuff…and it’s not nearly over yet.

However, we are about to get what could be a significant and sharp bear market rally. This move higher could even take us back to 9500-10,000 on the Dow Jones, so if you are playing the market on the short side be careful for a while.

The FED will reduce rates to 1% tomorrow, and there is a coordinated global rate cut coming along with it. In addition, the TARP is beginning to fund banks now so there will be plenty of short term positives for the talking heads on CNBC.

Here’s the medium term problem: This recession is just getting started and has at least another year to go. Once defaults begin in the corporate debt and commercial properties markets, the banks will need another bail-out package just to stay afloat. This is the big reason that they are not lending any of their newfound money from the TARP….they know that they will need this capital in the coming months just to remain solvent.

Now, here’s the longer term problem: ENTITLEMENTS (social security, medicare and medicaid)! If you have not seen the excellent movie I.O.U.SA., make sure you do so if it’s playing in a theatre near you. Here’s the bottom line. The US has over 90 trillion in debt and just about 40 trillion in assets. In the next 10-20 years, our taxes will have to increase to 70-80% just to pay the interest on our massive debt and to pay for entitlement programs!!

This is why I have a real issue with Warren Buffets advice to buy stocks for the long term. Can you see stock prices going up in the future with taxes at 80%?? I’m struggling with this one, and with another Buffet issue as well. While the NY Times gladly ran his puff piece on the stock market, they conveniently left out the fact that he has over $3 billion in stock market “derivatives losses” tied to S&P futures, and if the market continues to drop, his derivatives losses will only increase. Somehow, I think that people should have been informed of this. I’ve even read serious articles that push for an SEC investigation into Buffet over this. Likely won’t happen, but if it were you and me….?

Final thought on social security…and it’s a real shocker in case you’ve never heard this. In 1935, when Social Security began, there were about 40 workers for every retiree.

Now? The number is just 3.5 to 1, and in 10 years or so it will be 2 to 1.

Today, before Congress, God, and everybody, our old buddy Alan Greenspan will be speaking about subprime lending, the debt crisis and the resulting recession. And more specifically, about his role in it. Greenspan, the Federal Reserve Chairman under Bush, Clinton, and then Bush II, is largely responsible for much of the mess we are in....of this, there is NO doubt.

Years ago, back in the early 1980's, Greenspan spoke and wrote often about the dangers of high debt levels, easy money, and of our fiat currency. He was also a big fan of placing the U.S. back on the gold standard. But something changed when he came FED Chairman...like looking at Bizzarro and Superman...a total and complete change in belief systems took place.

Make no mistake about it, Alan Greenspan will go down as the one of the major reasons the U.S. experienced its largest economic slowdown since the 1930's.

Yesterday the U.S. stock market was down over 6%, and is now very oversold and probably due for a short term bounce. That will be all that we'll see...a bounce....assuming we even get that. The talking heads continue to tell us why "the stock market is so cheap here" and why "this selling has gotten much worse than it should have"...yet the market continues to go lower. What they are missing is that the recession will reduce corporate earnings by as much as 30-50% over the next couple to three years. This is why I continue to believe that the Dow will drop to 6000 - 7000 before this is all over.

But even then, investor confidence is so shaken that the majority of those leaving the market may not come back for many years. I saw a poll yesterday that really surprised me. 98% of investors polled said that they will change their financial advisor because of the poor job they have done through this market meltdown. When develeraging begins...it simply continues until the process is over. This apparently applies to stock brokers too.

In the meantime, gold and silver continues to trade at remarkably cheap levels. While that does not mean that it can't go lower still, I will be a buyer all the way. Dollar cost averaging in pm's makes a lot of sense to me, and the miners are trading at obscene levels. Talk about buying low and selling high...

Why the rich get richer! By Robert Kiyosaki

As we all know, the world changed drastically on Sept. 11, 2001, when the twin towers of the World Trade Center fell.

This year, on the eve of Sept. 11, the twin towers of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac crumbled. Then, on Sept. 15, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch disappeared. Actually, that was a triple-tower collapse if you count AIG.

In a few years, the biggest pair of towers will collapse: Social Security and Medicare. Even today, they're looking shaky. How many ground zeros can we as people, a nation, and a world withstand before we admit something is very wrong with our global financial systems? What will it take to wake us up?

Government Can't Fix It

Personally, I believe the biggest it's a problem that so many Americans are looking to this year's presidential candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain, to save our financial system. How did we become so financially weak that we surrender our economic independence to politicians? Where does it say in the Constitution that the government should solve our financial problems?

And why have so many people throughout the world come to expect financial life-support from their political leaders? It seems most people will vote for anyone who promises a chicken in every pot and a guaranteed mortgage payment.

We're in the midst of a problem neither candidate can solve: A lack of comprehensive financial education in our school systems. What else explains the economic blunders committed by our political and financial leaders? Or why so many consumers are in debt up to their eyeballs? Or why millions of people expect a quick government fix of some kind?

Under Water

A few months ago, a friend of mine from Hawaii asked me if I wanted to buy his new powerboat with twin motors. Apparently, in late 2007, he purchased it brand new for approximately $85,000. His plan was to refinance his house when it appreciated in value and use the difference to pay for the boat.

Failing to obtain new financing, he called to ask me if I would buy the boat from him -- just take over the payments and it was mine. I passed, and the bank eventually repossessed his boat. Later, his wife called to tell me he's now having problems making his mortgage payments. Apparently, my friend planned to pay for his house the same way he planned on paying for the boat, by refinancing his debt.

I mention this story because it illustrates the problem Obama or McCain face: Limited financial education and diminished financial common sense. Apparently, my and the nation's business leaders all went to same school of finance.

A Cynical Aside

If you want to know why the towers of American capitalism are crumbling, I recommend reading "The Creature from Jekyll Island" by G. Edward Griffin. It's not an easy book to find, but once you start reading it's to put down. In fact, in many ways it's a murder mystery about the financial "murder" of the middle class.

A very important lesson in the book is how political leaders use financial spin to deceive the public. The very, very rich use the system to legally steal from the rest of us by appealing to our sense of patriotism. When our leaders say, "We're bailing out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac because we want to protect the American people," they really mean "We're saving our rich friends."

All the bankers and politicians have to do is wave the red, white, and blue, play a few bars of "Yankee Doodle," and the masses get teary-eyed and pledge greater allegiance to legalized robbery. Yes, it's true that ignorance is bliss -- but ignorance is also expensive, and it cost us our freedom.

Freedom at Peril

A bailout can be different things. First, printing more money is a kind of bailout that leads to higher inflation. Rather than protecting people, it makes life for the poor and middle class more expensive. The other kind of bailout is protection for our rich and incompetent friends. If you or I fail at business, we fail. If we cheat and fail, we go to jail. But if you're rich and politically connected, your incompetence may be protected by a government bailout.

As a former Marine and a Vietnam War veteran, it saddens me to see some of the freedoms I thought I went to war to protect being stolen from us by bankers and politicians. Unfortunately, few Americans know the difference between the words "nationalize" and "socialize." Socialize means we turn more of our personal powers over to Big Brother, not free enterprise. It means we as a people grow weaker and need a higher power -- the same power that got us into this mess -- to protect us.

In short, when the towers of Fannie, Freddie, Merrill, Lehman, and AIG came crashing down, more came down than just money. What we're losing is the very freedom this country was founded on, and what most of the world yearns for.

I've been debating whether or not to write this email for about two weeks now because I know that quite a few people will wrongly be offended by it, and that my inbox will be flooded by derogatory responses.

Then my new issue of Perry Marshall's Newsletter arrived in my mail box, and I changed my mind...

Smart people and stupid people get equal airtime. And since stupid people tend to shout longer and louder than people who have acquired wisdom and judgment, ignorance usually prevails.

Perry's point is that you should never stifle the growth of the wise minority for fear of loud reprisal by the ignorant majority. With that said, here is a very basic, very simple message on the surface that will contain deeper meaning for those who get it...

I hate shopping at Wal-Mart. It makes me sick to my stomach, but the important part is why... (And if you're going to read this, you need to read the entire page).
For as long as I can remember, I've had a burning desire to achieve above average financial prosperity... To have the million dollar home on the lake, the cars, and the ability to do anything, or buy anything I want. 100%, pure freedom.

But it's not just about material goods. Money gives you the freedom, options, and power to have a large and positive impact on society through charity, education, and reform.

Because I have such strong feelings and emotions attached to the desire to achieve wealth and success, I have equally strong feelings of repulsion for poverty and weakness.

Most wealthy and successful people share this repulsion.

Why?

Because they are consciously aware (unlike the majority of society), that thoughts, ideas, and attitudes are real things, and that they are contagious.

You will adopt the ideas, beliefs, and mindset of the people you spend the most time with (including the people found on TV, in books, or on tape), which will lead you to make similar decisions, which will lead you to assume a similar life and lifestyle.

Rich people know this, and they know that a person's mindset is fluid. It's always changing with the ideas and interactions it comes into contact with on a daily basis.

This is why rich people protect themselves from everything associated with struggle and poverty.

Ever wonder why they live together in walled communities closed off from the rest of society with massive gates? Ever wonder why they shop at expensive boutiques, fly first-class, stay at $500/night hotels?

Ever wonder why most of them belong to "members only" country clubs?

Is it because they want to enjoy the finer things in life? Well sure. But that's not the only reason.

They want to protect their minds from the thoughts of poverty and struggle that are held by the rest of common society because they know that all thoughts are contagious, and they have a burning desire to live un-common lives.

The rich get richer because they only invite and interact with other prosperous people.

The common man sees this behavior as "stuck-up" and "snobby". The rich simple see it as an unfortunate necessity, as I do.

That's why I never shop at Wal-Mart. Have I? Yes. But just walking into that store makes me physically uncomfortable. My stomach turns.

I feel that way because I associate that store and the people who shop there with struggle and poverty.

The entire company is designed around the concept of "saving money" and pinching pennies.

It's a physical monument dedicated to thoughts like...

"I only have this much money, so I need to save as much as I can."

"The economy is crashing, so I need to guard what little I have."

"I can't afford it..."

"We're on a limited budget."

That kind mindset is a disease voluntarily held by people who go through life as victims.

They are subservient to their boss, to economic times, to prices, and to money itself.

Money has the power, and they are lucky to acquire and save any that comes their way.

The rich think differently.

They believe and accept that they have the power to change and shape their lives as they wish. Money doesn't own their lives, they own the money. They have the power.

The difference between these two mindsets can be summed up like this...

Someone with a poverty mentality says, "I can't afford it".

Someone with an abundance mentality says, "How can I afford it?"

The more you start to think like the rich, the more appearant this mindset will become to you. One day, you'll walk into Walmart and you'll literally FEEL what I'm talking about.

You'll feel like you're out of place... Like you've walked into a club or restaurant where you're the one person who doesn't belong.

Now I know that there are a lot of people out there reading this who DO shop at Wal-Mart and are saying, "that's easy for you to say Mike. You don't have a family of 4 to support and you're not struggling to get this home business thing off the ground anymore."

Well I have shopped at Wal-Mart and I have been as low as anyone. When you're pawning your DVD collection to eat as I have, you've basically hit the bottom.

But the difference is that even during those times, I have NEVER been comfortable shopping there because in my mind, I was different. I didn't belong in that store. I didn't share the same mind-set that the rest of the people in there did.

I have nothing against saving money when you're struggling. I was there. But I do, and will always wage war against a poverty mentality.

Whether or not you shop at Wal-Mart is not important. Everyone starts from the bottom and does whatever they have to do. Whether or not you are comfortable and happy shopping at Wal-Mart is where your personal truth is found.

If you don't have the feelings, desires, and aspirations to separate yourself from the crowd of Middle America discount shoppers, then I don't know why you're even on this list.

To take this attitude of abundance vs prosperity to another level, I've also adopted the following habits:

I never use coupons and I never accept coin change from a purchase. If my bottle of water costs $1.75, the cashier gets $2.00 and keeps the 25 cents.

Why?

Because I NEVER focus on pinching pennies. I focus on MAKING MORE.

I constantly hold an abundance mindset, and these two habits are a physical expression of that mentality that I have held even when I was making $1,500/mo as a waiter. It's a message to my subconscious mind to always see life through a lens of prosperity.

Possible Economic Solution- to the world mess this week.

Sugarland, TX – September 18, 2008– Yesterday I wrote that the “FED must drop rates and that AIG must be bailed out”. Tonight we have word that the AIG bailout has happened, and that 80% of the company will now be owned by us…the US taxpayer. Congratulations everyone….we now owe over $1 trillion in additional unfunded liabilities.
"The Board determined that, in current circumstances, a disorderly failure of AIG could add to already significant levels of financial market fragility and lead to substantially higher borrowing costs, reduced household wealth and materially weaker economic performance," the NY Federal Reserve said.
Look, here’s the bottom line on all of this. The delirious “geniuses” that dreamed up these ridiculous instruments called “derivatives” over the last 10 years are to blame for the current mess we are in. If any of us were responsible for this monstrosity of a creation, we would be tarred, feathered and hanged for the whole world to see. I honestly don’t know if the worst is behind us, because I have lost complete confidence in a government that would allow this to happen in the first place. It’s almost as if they want it to happen….“it” being a repeat of the catastrophic events of the 1930’s Great Depression.
The truth is that I am an eternal optimist, and that I believe in the great spirit of ingenuity that lies in each of us. Unfortunately, “we” are not running things right now, and the idiots that are don’t seem to know how to right the ship that we are all sinking in.
So, what would I do if I ran the Federal Reserve??
I would institute the “Herriage Manifesto”: a FIVE STEP PLAN to completely clean up our markets in less than 30 DAYS:
One: I would open the books of the FED so that for the first time EVER, our private bankers accounting shenanigans could be audited and uncovered. The FED is as Federal as Federal Express…which means that it’s not federal at all. It’s a private cabal that lines the pockets of the worlds “ultra elite” through massive criminal activity and should ultimately be abolished… and the crooks that profit from our misery should be thrown in jail for life!
Two: I would place the US dollar back on a limited version of the gold standard immediately, and reverse the amazingly poor decision made in 1973, when Nixon removed all of gold’s backing from our currency. Then, over a 50 year period I would mandate that 25% of all money in circulation must be backed directly by gold. This move would reduce interest rates by 50% overnight, increase lending to consumers by 300%, and would have real estate prices appreciating across the board NOW…and for decades to come.
Three: I would eliminate “naked short selling” and make these crooks immediately cover their short positions so that Wall Street thieves couldn’t drive otherwise healthy companies into total and complete bankruptcy. This criminal short selling would be eliminated in less than an hour and we would see share prices rise by 10% in a single day…. and over 25% in 30 days. The fact that this has not already been done tells us that the foxes are guarding the hen house!
Four: I would make it a crime (criminal not civil) to issue derivatives that do not directly add to the well being and health of a particular industry or commodity. Derivatives make a lot of sense for a farmer that is hedging against a bad crop season, but they make no sense when used by financial institutions that are using them to increase their returns by 2% per year, while placing the entire financial system as we know it at risk.
Five: I would remove all barriers to trade, and open the markets entirely so that a true ‘free enterprise” system could develop once and for all. Protectionism is the enemy of the entrepreneur, and once removed allows prices to move based purely on supply and demand. This allows businesses to make decisions based in what really works, pure and simple, instead of some government mumbo-jumbo about “protecting us” from international competition.
Where we go from here will be interesting to watch. This has the feel of a total selling climax, which gives us the massive negativity that we need to finally reach a contrarian bottom. The next few days will tell us if this is the case, so stay tuned.
Good luck to all as we work our way out of this mess caused by our idiot decision makers in the government, and by the criminals at the FED.
